Roots

In the month of April 2020, Makhluk Seni kicked off #HomegrownMakhlukSenis with 10 days of prompts, mindfulness activities and goals to help us get through the isolation. One thing that has grown on me being back home, or more like what makes me feel at home was my bookshelf. A collection of graphic novels, classics, chapbooks from local writers and fantasy fiction. It is one thing that I would not want to part with and be the main weight that I carry with me if I end up somewhere else. Day 2 My feet are taking root Our feet are starting to itch⠀ Dear Makhluk Seni, w e ask you: What types of roots have your feet turned into? #quarantineinitiative #grassroots #PACT2020 #NAPoWriMo #NaPoWriMo2020 Nails ingrained into hard wooden shelves Holding books bound with embroidery threads Dust, mold and ants crawling between the pages Feet wearing boots laces with words Ticking tapping twirling Wind flipping pages and snatching bookmarks Soaked in rain and dried with lightning Footnotes read in t

Baking Dreams

In the month of April 2020, Makhluk Seni kicked off #HomegrownMakhlukSenis with 10 days of prompts, mindfulness activities and goals to help us get through the isolation. During the first round of MCO, I started baking a lot during the hours that I could not sleep and feeding my housemates with random baked goods. It's been therapeutic and meditative. Day 1 Day and Night Dreams To start off our first prompt of this homegrown journey Dear Makhluk Seni, ⠀ We ask you: As the days have melted with the night and time has ceased to exist. What have your dreams been like? #quarantineinitiative #grassroots #PACT2020 #NAPoWriMo #NaPoWriMo2020 Awake at night Sleeping in the day Dreams swirl in daylight Starry nights awake in stormy clouds Sunshine sleeping in the moonlight's dreams Rainbows dance in sleeping dreams Stars in real life Baked in twilight. - Swit Marie 04:20H 20.4.2020 Purgatory

Magpie Memories

I think my spirit animal might be a magpie. We keep things we like, protective over our loved ones and remember people. I could just be a hoarder, haha. I wrote this after taking a walk and saw broken snail shells on the pavement. I saw magpies for the first time when I was on my solo trip to Australia in June 2019.   Walking along pathways; Finding shattered snail shells scattered along the creases of pavements One wonders of life so fragile.   Skipping along memory lane I'll bring you to a magpie's nest Let each of her trinkets sing a tune of a time.   Each note intently. Each pitch directly.   Her treasures picked wisely Kept close to home Where her feathers warm her and her thoughts engulf her.   Pleasing to the eye Each one sparkles and dazzles in the bright light of the living feelings that come with it.   - Swit Marie 0300H 15th June 2019 Kayu Ara
