Roots

In the month of April 2020, Makhluk Seni kicked off #HomegrownMakhlukSenis with 10 days of prompts, mindfulness activities and goals to help us get through the isolation.

One thing that has grown on me being back home, or more like what makes me feel at home was my bookshelf. A collection of graphic novels, classics, chapbooks from local writers and fantasy fiction. It is one thing that I would not want to part with and be the main weight that I carry with me if I end up somewhere else.

Day 2 My feet are taking root

Our feet are starting to itch⠀

Dear Makhluk Seni, we ask you: What types of roots have your feet turned into?

Nails ingrained into hard wooden shelves

Holding books bound with embroidery threads

Dust, mold and ants crawling between the pages

Feet wearing boots laces with words

Ticking tapping twirling

Wind flipping pages and snatching bookmarks

Soaked in rain and dried with lightning

Footnotes read in the voice of thunder

Tiptoeing between paragraphs and line breaks

Pacing chapter to chapter

Losing footing as the sandpaper swirls in the air

Soul feeling cold marble tiles

Growing out roots to catch on to quotes

Ideas nestled in bird's nest made from branches of dreams

Sitting in trees nailed to the ground.
