This Is Malaysia

Recently Swit Marie has gotten more active on the HitRECord platform and started working on new material and collaborations. This was definitely the highlight of 2020 for her years of writing in the past few years. Reaching an international audience and being part of a community of creatives through this project involving over 180 contributors.

The piece that was submitted for the This Is Malaysia video by HitRECord was derived from Dragon Tail.

This Is Malaysia final script remixed by Matt Conley from 8 contributors.

This Is Malaysia video.

The morning sun greets the mist of the hills,
Joy seeps into my lungs as the morning dew
kisses my cheeks,
Peppercorn scents sing melodies of what the day could be.

Waking up to the clouds embracing the mountain ranges
This is where my heart belongs
My fingertips touch the sparkle in the air
made by the sun rays that love the mist
My shoulders rise with the lightness of the sunrise.

A symphony of swallows sifting through the clouds,
Murmurations of hornbills creating
iridescent swirls in panoramic view,
Vibrancy of gliding kingfishers
turn the sky into a kaleidoscope of colours.

Dayung Sangon sits by the porch with her bamboo cup
Tuak sneaking down her pipes
as the clouds clear the pepper fields
Groguo walk through the paddy fields to get to the well
to collect sky juice to bring back to the Barok.

The time comes for the gathering
Bats circle the canopy of limestone caves
that rise as high as the heavens
Walls of cascading toadstool waterfalls
Groguo climbs to the edge of the ledge
to catch the sight
of a streamline of rare dragonflies.

Dayung Sangon makes her way back to the hills
after tending to her fields
Sun setting painting the sky pink and rose
Storks not in sight as they camouflage
with the dimming light of magic hour
Groguo knows it is time
for his people to find solace
till the next sunrise.

Notes: Words from the Bidayuh language
Dayung Sangon (beautiful lady)
Tuak (Traditionally brewed rice wine)
Groguo (descendants of Panglima Kurow, a famous Bidayuh warrior)
Barok (Traditional Bidayuh house)
