#NaPoWriMo2018 Day10 prompt by Poetry Cafe KL

Change of plan! Democracy, elections, nationhood, power, hypocrisy, hope, change, helplessness, corruption - write a poem to suit the current mood.

 This piece was performed during If Walls Could Talk KL's 48th show in accordance with NaPoWriMo 2018

Tanggal 31
Remove the 31 layers of false flavours
Accusation trends and ramifications
Every flash memory of people yelling out their patriotism to their race and roots
that dug deep into the grounds of Merdeka
Hang up the glory days of the life that was and the memories of yesteryear
31 days is not enough to heal the wounds of racism or remove post colonial scars.

Bulan 8
Crescent, half, full and blood Moons have gone by
Months with no returns and growing loss of hope in the natives' eyes after seeing their lands go corrupt by rust in the hands of the pale
Their seas stripped of its oily richness
Virgin soil ploughed by industrial blades
Timbre traded for foundations of cold concrete.

Berpuluh-puluh mengeluh
Berpeluh-peluh menuduh
Blaming the state
Blaming the straight
Stand in seas of gossip mongers
Looking down below.

Hari yang mulia
Yang bahagia
Mula dengan
Where is the pure interest for the people
The dire need for contentment and commitment
Where happiness meets unity
And a loud call for destiny
Cheering with the roars of this generasi
Melangkah maju dan bersetuju
Bersatu.

Pilihan kita pilihan raya
Jangan berhati separuh
Maju ke depan anda yang berupaya.

2020

I  wrote this on the flight travelling back to Malaysia in 2020, leaving Australia after what would have been the last time I see the person that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with. I was observing the people around me, it was an 8 hour flight with a lot of turbulence, who would have know that 2020 would be that kind of year as well. It is funny how things tell you of what will come in its own little ways. This Is Malaysia

Recently Swit Marie has gotten more active on the HitRECord platform and started working on new material and collaborations. This was definitely the highlight of 2020 for her years of writing in the past few years. Reaching an international audience and being part of a community of creatives through this project involving over 180 contributors.
