Day and Night

On the 31st of December, the last day of 2016, my dearest friend, Paula joined in union with her beloved, now husband. Their journey together is a very real and rich one, something that should be celebrated and highlighted. I was asked to write a poem regarding marriage, when I look at them, they are as different as night and day but both just as important and complements each other in its own way. I wrote it in mind to go hand in hand with their 'Lord of The Rings.' themed wedding as well.

Dawn.
The first break of daylight
Chasing the land from the horizon
Light invading every space imaginable
Leaving no area untouched by hope and joy.

That is the first rush of infatuation.
Magnificent, encompassing and overpowering
When emotions are riled up and
adrenaline courses through every artery and vein
To stir you up to do things
you never thought you would in this lifetime.

Dusk.
When the sun sets
That ball of fire is now
cascading down to disappear
Slowly the clouds turn colour
The light creeps back to the horizon
And everything looks different.

Things are not so rosy anymore
when conflicts come into play
And life gets in the way
When romance is but a fantasy
The opposite of what you see in reality.
All that glitters turn into dust
Amidst all that you see
You both held on to each other
And said,"Let's build a life together."

You see a marriage is like night and day
It is long and trying but it is here to stay
No matter what you do
It is constant and true
It will come and pass its time
And you will always have it in mind.
There will be light and also darkness
Like how shadows show itself in the day
the stars shine bright in the night

Everything has its season and time
Time to work and time to rest
Time to celebrate and time to grief
Time to thrive and time to retreat
Times of success and disappointment
Time to love and make love.

Have patience as you toil through the day
Have peace as you slumber through the night

This has come full circle,
This covenant that bind you both
May your love be unconditional
And true, more so than the orbit that binds
the rotations of the earth and moon.
Honour the time that you are blessed with
from here on out
You both shall spend every day and night
without a doubt
Together forever till Kingdom come.

Cheers to Kelvin and Paula,
the bride and groom.
May they always be in harmony like the sun and moon.
