From SB: To The Reflection in The Mirror

It has been a really difficult two weeks, and I'm beyond exhausted in every way. This letter has been particularly good for me, because nobody can remind me of my self-worth as much as myself.

Hey girl, yes you, the one with the puffy eyes,
The one who is tired of the false promises that lead to goodbyes,
Are those pieces of your heart that you hold in your hand?
Oh no, they are remnants of things that haven’t worked out quite as planned.

Stupid girl, don’t you think you should have known better by now,
To trust boys with lilting voices that croon songs by Jay Chou,
They are all just flimsy words girl, not resolutions to work towards together,
The minute things take a turn for the difficult they’ll be gone like fair weather.

You look tired girl, why are you still pushing through?
You shouldn’t care what people have to say about you.
So what if you have to explain that once upon a time you were incredibly happy,
And now you’re just crushed, heartbroken, cynical and just a tinge of sappy?

Stop it girl, forget about all of that,
Stop eating compulsively too or once again you’re going to get fat,
Wipe those tears that keep falling, stop filling that self-pity cup,
It’s about time you stood tall like you know you can and kept your chin up.

Relax girl, there’s nothing wrong with being too much,
It’s time you learn to live by yourself,
You were not made for romanticism and such,
It is time to put that notion on the shelf.

Look at me girl, look deep into my eyes,
Find that fire that burns within us so deep,
Relish in that heat as your heart turns to ice,
And walk that road despite it being long, winding and steep.

It might still hurt some days, this much you know,
That some boy thought so little of you he let you go,
But you know what girl, and this is as true as Eve’s sin,
To survive in this world, you don’t need him.

Alright girl, so we’ve established that is enough,
Now go out & take the world, and if necessary be rough,
There are people who love you & will remind you that you can,
So go out there girl, you don’t need anyone to hold your hand.

SB is a conflicted soul of sorts, who is mad enough to go chase after what she really loves as opposed to conform to society and her mother's idea of a successful person. She prays she makes it in life, because she will not be able to tolerate the nagging that would follow if she doesn't. Her inspiration comes from everything around her, as well as made up situations in her head. Good luck distinguishing between the two.
