If Walls Could Talk

If Walls Could Talk holds a special place in The Muruku Sisterhood's heart and played the biggest part in us writing again. Gaslight Cafe has been so kind as host If Walls Could Talk every month. Lately they have been facing a problem with people not paying the entrance fee and going there and not supporting Gaslight by (at least) buying a drink. So this is a PSA to all those who go for If Walls Could Talk - let's all support each other in whatever way we can.

If walls could talk they'd tell you to respect the rules,
It's common courtesy,
But then again common courtesy is not common anymore unfortunately,
So people end up behaving like fools.

If walls could talk they'd tell you to appreciate the platform they've given you,
A safe space to read your poetry,          
That only charges a ten ringgit fee,      
So buy a drink even if there's a queue.

If walls could talk they'd tell you not to be a mainstream hipster,
You follow 'The Idiot's Guide To Being Hipster' with precision,
You treat it like it's your bible and being a mainstream hipster is your religion,
People like you belong in the dumpster.

If walls could talk they'd say don't be so stingy,
Don't throw money at overpriced cafes but spend it here too,
Buy a drink & pay the fee is all they ask of you,
Maybe then people won't think you're bitchy.

If walls could talk they'd be disappointed in you,
You spend money at the cinema watching movies,
But refuse to pay to watch poetry,
This is one of the reasons the arts will never get a breakthrough.

If walls could talk they'd bid you adieu,
To your instagram filters that you so like,
They'd also tell you to go fly kites,          
If walls could talk, they'd happily say goodbye to you.

JN is the one who doesn't take chances, but she's working on that. She's powering through life, one day at a time. Even with all that life throws her, you'll always see her with a smile. She's a hopeless romantic, hopeless beyond repair. You may say she's a dreamer, but she's got her feet on the ground.

This Is Malaysia

Recently Swit Marie has gotten more active on the HitRECord platform and started working on new material and collaborations. This was definitely the highlight of 2020 for her years of writing in the past few years. Reaching an international audience and being part of a community of creatives through this project involving over 180 contributors. 2020

I  wrote this on the flight travelling back to Malaysia in 2020, leaving Australia after what would have been the last time I see the person that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with. I was observing the people around me, it was an 8 hour flight with a lot of turbulence, who would have know that 2020 would be that kind of year as well. It is funny how things tell you of what will come in its own little ways.
